It's time to begin planning for NSBA's next Annual Conference, scheduled for April 8-11, 2006
in New Orleans, Louisiana!
We are calling for proposals from school districts and other organizations for
high-quality, 75-minute breakout sessions that focus on topics of critical interest
to school board members from all across the country. Our conference attendees are
seeking information and skills to help them govern and lead more effectively in the
fast-moving world of K-12 education.
If you are interested in having a program or presentation from your school district
or organization considered for the 66th Annual Conference, please read this page carefully
and submit your proposal online by 5pm Eastern Time on June 6, 2005.

What are Share the Success, Meet the Experts, and Exhibitor Workshops?
Share the Success Workshops
75-minute presentations showcasing highly successful programs at work in school districts of every size around the country. These proposals must be for programs or projects that include the direct involvement of your school board.
Meet the Experts Workshops
75-minute presentations that provide conference attendees with the opportunity to learn from groups and individuals who are not directly associated with a particular school district, but have information to share that is of vital interest to school board members/educational leaders.
Exhibitor Workshops
75-minute presentations given by companies currently exhibiting at NSBA's Annual Conference. These sessions are educational in nature and must not contain promotional material regarding the company or its products. These presentations provide conference attendees with the opportunity to learn from groups and individuals who are not directly associated with a particular school district, but have information to share that is of vital interest to school board members/educational leaders. Exhibitor status will be confirmed during the evaluation process-If you elect to be considered for an exhibitor workshop, you must be a confirmed exhibitor at the time of submittal, or your proposal will be automatically rejected.
Proposals for Presentations must be submitted online, and must pertain to one of the ten Program Track Areas, based on The Key Work of School Boards (Examples of possible presentation topics follow- presentation topics are not limited to the examples that follow):

Presentations should be geared toward one of the following target audiences

Submissions received by the deadline will be evaluated by a committee of NSBA staff and representatives from NSBA's Federation Members (state school boards associations), according to the following criteria:
- Is the topic of high interest and relevance to today's school leaders?
- Does the title clearly describe exactly what the session will be about?
- Does the description give a clear, concise picture of what the presentation will include?
- Are the objectives clear and can they be met realistically in the time allowed?
- Is there evidence of creativity and innovation in the approach taken to this issue or topic?
- Is the role of the school board clearly articulated?
- Has the program been in existence for at least one year, and is the program's positive impact clearly described?
- Will the presentation provide solid, practical "how-to" information?
- Can the program be replicated in a wide variety of school systems?
- Do proposed presentation delivery methods address standards for effective adult learning?
- Is the proposal well-written (does it demonstrate correct spelling, grammar, avoid the use of acronyms and abbreviations), follow requested word limits, and is it complete?
Each district or organization may submit up to three (3) proposals.

Proposals are assigned for review online immediately following the deadline
to allow time for thoughtful review and selection
Presenter Guidelines and Requirements
School districts submitting proposals must be members in good standing of their state school boards association.
- Do not type any part of your proposal in all capital or lowercase letters, do not use acronyms or abbreviations, and please do not send any attachments or supplemental materials--they will not be reviewed.
- Please limit the number of presenters to four total presenters. Do not list individuals as secondary presenters unless you have a definite commitment that they will present. If you are invited to present, you will have an opportunity to add or change presenter names in December 2005.
- We will schedule sessions throughout the Annual Conference, from Saturday, April 8, through Tuesday, April 11, 2006. Do not submit a proposal unless you can present your session any time during the Annual Conference. We will make exceptions for religious considerations if they are communicated upon acceptance of our invitation to present.
- ALL PRESENTERS MUST PAY CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FEES AND HAVE A REGISTRATION BADGE. PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS POLICY TO YOUR SECONDARY PRESENTERS. THERE ARE NO PRESENTER REGISTRATION DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE.
- NSBA cannot pay an honorarium or expenses for presenting breakout sessions at the Annual Conference. We hope that the intangible benefits of being a part of our educational programming make the effort worthwhile for presenters.
Note: Presenters will have use of the following audio-visual equipment, at no cost to the presenters: LCD Computer projection device, one large screen, one lectern microphone and one table microphone. Overhead projectors and VHS Video projectors will be ordered upon request. There will be no modems or phone lines for Internet access in the presentation rooms.
PERSONS PRESENTING AT NSBA'S ANNUAL CONFERENCE ARE EXPECTED TO USE MATERIAL AND LANGUAGE THAT DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE ON THE BASIS OF GENDER, RACE, COLOR, ETHNICITY, RELIGION, PHYSICAL ABILITY, AND/OR SEXUAL ORIENTATION.
